C. 5 de noviembre de 2015.- El gobierno mexicano debe reaccionar con mayor energía y alcance ante el fraude ambiental de la empresa Volkswagen, que equipó varios de sus modelos con motores diseñados para pasar con engaños el “smog check”, lo que pone bajo sospecha a toda la industria automotriz y obliga a replantear la protección y apoyo que la federación le ha venido dando.
Así lo dijo el director del Centro de Innovación y Gestión Ambiental (CIGA), José Carmelo Zavala, luego de que laAgencia de Protección Medioambiental (EPA) de Estados Unidos nuevamente acusó esta semana a Volkswagen al confirmar que algunos modelos Porsche y Audi, al igual que los descubiertos en septiembre, tienen motores para engañar al “smog check”, con lo que el escándalo crece.
Explicó que esta semana Volkswagen y su línea Audi suspendieron la venta de automóviles diésel en Estados Unidos, sumándolos a la lista de modelos Jetta, Golf, Passat y otros que, según investigaciones de la Universidad de Virginia y el Consejo Internacional del Transporte Limpio, tienen motores que registran en la verificación hasta 35 veces menos emisiones de óxido de nitrógeno que al circular.
“Aunque nunca antes se cuestionó la calidad automotriz alemana, este caso sacó a relucir el engaño y pone en duda a toda la fabricación de todas las marcas, por lo que la industria automotriz nacional debe ser sancionada e investigada a fondo por el gobierno federal; no olvidemos que ha sido con argumentos ambientales que esta ha crecido y que destruyó el mercado de autos usados”, remarcó.
Agregó que el impulso a la modernización del parque vehicular como estrategia contra el cambio climático, que supondría aprovechar el avance tecnológico para contaminar menos, una mejor combustión y un mejor rendimiento, es hoy un mito, una gran mentira de la industria para seguir produciendo y empujar al gobierno federal a aplicar políticas contra el mercado de autos usados en la frontera.
“El gobierno destruyó el mercado de carros usados en la frontera para proteger una industria que engañó al mundo, que usó la ciencia y tecnología como delincuentes para que un software engañara al sistema smog check por 7 años; modelos Audi, Seat, Porsche y otros envenenaron al mundo con 11 millones de carros, debe revalorarse ambientalmente el mercado de autos usados”, enfatizó.
La Secretaría de Hacienda, recordó José Carmelo Zavala, impuso al mercado de segunda mano precios estimados y aranceles altísimos para bajar la importación y proteger a la industria, y aunque Eduardo Solís, presidente de la Asociación Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz y exfuncionario de Hacienda, ha dicho que no debe importarse chatarra, aquí fue la industria la que puso a circular chatarra.
Así como podemos reconocer la inversión y la derrama económica de la industria automotriz en estados como Puebla, Guanajuato o Aguascalientes, aquí en Baja California el mercado de carros usados también generaba mucha economía y empleos al incluir giros como los talleres mecánicos, carrocería y pintura; es un mercado importante económicamente y ambientalmente benéfico por el reuso.
